One of the residents had packed the camping stuff up and she probably did that a whole lot in her lifetime. This is West Virginia, so a lot of people camp there and all. They have an area where they had a tent set up with a folding station in these different little stations. ![]() There was somebody in the other room, and being a nurse, thinking about hospital bathrooms and stuff and having an unexpected tour, I thought the bathroom was really clean. It had a chair in there that they could sit on. There's a bed in it, a built-in closet space, and drawers. It was a nice-sized bedroom for what my parents would need. There were two bedrooms in it and they shared a bathroom. What stood out for me was all the residents looked happy. While we were there, they were getting ready to do the activity of drawing and some coloring while we were touring a room, and the facility, looking at the menu, and how they do things. She's very respectful and very knowledgeable. We had to wait 5 minutes for the lady to show up. They were expecting me because I had an appointment. They had a sitting area and people were actually gathered there talking and then there was a sign and table to the left, and you were greeted right away. When you walked in the front door, it looked very homey. For independent living, they offer one meal a day, and then you can buy additional meals, so it's flexible.Harmony at Martinsburg had a great presentation. They offer three meals a day with assisted living. They gave us all the information that we needed and explained everything. The staff members were informative and patient. They have nurses' stations on the assisted living floors, so that's nice. The elevators were large enough for wheelchairs. It has outdoor patios if you want an outdoor deck in your apartment or a sunroom. The rooms, and even the studio, which is the smallest, are a good size. I saw a couple of residents in their computer room and library. The place was clean, spotless, and well maintained. They also have a physical therapy room, which was good. The fitness room has a lot of equipment in it. The only difference between them is the number of apartments available and the level of care. We visited independent living and assisted living. If she didn't want to eat at that time, but she gets hungry later, they allowed us to bring in food that she could utilize. They can always warm up something, food, or pastries, just as a backup. We can leave food there in case she doesn't eat. I noticed that there's an improvement in trying to have things that she will eat. There's like a lot of pasta and my mother doesn't eat that, but they did ask for a menu of what she does eat. They get a lot of food, but my mom has concerns. They have a Friday night gathering where they can socialize with the other residents that might be in assisted living or independent living. They have a dress-up activity where you dress in different costumes. ![]() They have a director and they do gardening, they have games, and they do bingo. We are there frequently and when we're there, we notice that whether it's my mom or others, they treat them professionally. The concierge is very welcoming and energetic. My mother has moved into Harmony at Kent Memory Care. I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident ![]() My view of the outside was just the parking lot walking into the front door, which was landscaped very nicely. So I was very pleased with his personality and presentation. I thought he was extremely knowledgeable, very helpful, and very willing to make the transition for my mom as easy as possible. He was the one that gave me the tour and reached out to me afterward. I saw the staff interacting with some residents, and it seemed to be a very nice, quaint community. So I thought they were more than adequate, and they were well done. ![]() They had their own bathrooms, a small closet, and a bedroom area. And I was interested in at that time in memory care for my mom because she, although was declining, wasn't at the level she is now. It had been recommended to me by two other families, one of which moved their parents into the assisted living side.
